canstockphoto26662837Moving is widely regarded as one of the most stressful events in a person’s life. If you have recently
bought a home and moved and are putting together a list of items you need, or a member of your family or one of your friends has moved, here are a few examples of interesting housewarming gifts you could give to really make a new house feel like a home:
1. Fireplace kit  If their new home has a fireplace, one of the best gifts you can give is a fireplace kit. Complete with poker and ash broom, these items will make it easy for the new homeowners to warm up their homes and make use of their new fireplace. Too small? make the gift bigger. Include a log for their fire, the tools to keep the fire going, and the tools for cleaning up after it, and they’ll have everything they need.
2. Warm blanket  Even if most of their furniture has yet to arrive (or they’ve moved from a small apartment and don’t have nearly enough furniture to fill a home), a warm blanket can make a barren house feel like a home, especially in the winter time and especially as they are just moving in and the house hasn’t fully warmed up yet from sitting empty the last few weeks or months.
3. A cactus  Why give a cactus as a housewarming gift? Because unlike most plants you can give during this time of the year, they are not doing to die in the cold weather. They are pretty much maintenance-free, while still adding color and life to the new house.
4. Spices for the kitchen  Especially if this is the person’s first home, they may not have a complete spice cupboard. You can rectify this issue and prepare them for their winter parties by providing them with a full range of spices for cooking.
5. A clock  Until they have their home set up and their routine down, they might not have a good way of telling time. Clocks on ovens and microwaves do not countthey are utilitarian. Sure, everyone has a phone on their hip today, but a clock on the wall or on the mantle can really make a house feel pulled together and homey.
If you know someone who has bought a new house and you want to give them a gift, or you are putting together a wish list for things your new home needs, this list can get you started!
